Job Summary

Tim Hortons is seeking a visionary and results-driven Senior Director, Equipment Innovation & Technology Scouting to lead the identification, evaluation, and integration of next-generation equipment technologies across our restaurant and supply chain ecosystem. This senior leadership role is critical in shaping the future of operational excellence, automation, sustainability, and digital transformation for one of the worlds most iconic quick-service restaurant brands.

The successful candidate will act as a strategic innovator and enterprise change leader, partnering closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Digital, Finance, and external technology partners to drive scalable equipment innovation that enhances guest experience, team member efficiency, food quality, and cost optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead global equipment innovation strategy, aligning emerging technologies with Tim Hortons long-term business and operational objectives.

  • Scout, assess, and validate new technologies including automation, robotics, AI-enabled equipment, IoT, energy-efficient systems, and smart kitchen solutions.

  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with equipment manufacturers, startups, research institutions, and technology vendors.

  • Oversee end-to-end pilot programs, from concept development through testing, commercialization, and enterprise rollout.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Restaurant Development, Supply Chain, Digital Technology, and Franchise Leadership to ensure successful implementation.

  • Establish governance, standards, and evaluation frameworks for equipment selection, safety, compliance, and ROI measurement.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce operational complexity, improve throughput, enhance product consistency, and lower total cost of ownership.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing innovation and engineering team.

  • Monitor global technology trends, competitive benchmarks, and regulatory changes impacting foodservice equipment and operations.

  • Present strategic recommendations and business cases to executive leadership and key stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven leadership in innovation, engineering, or equipment strategy within large-scale, multi-site environments.

  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate innovation into practical, scalable business solutions.

  • Expertise in equipment lifecycle management, automation, and emerging technologies.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management and executive communication skills.

  • Strong financial acumen, including capital planning, ROI analysis, and cost-benefit evaluation.

  • Ability to lead complex change initiatives in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.

  • Global mindset with experience working across regions and cultures.

Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Technology Management, Operations, or a related field required; Masters degree or MBA preferred.

  • 12–15+ years of progressive experience in equipment innovation, engineering, operations technology, or related fields.

  • Minimum 5+ years in a senior leadership or director-level role within foodservice, retail, manufacturing, or consumer-facing industries.

  • Experience working with franchise-based or multi-unit operations is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale technology pilots and enterprise deployments.

Working Hours

  • Full-time, senior leadership role.

  • Standard business hours with flexibility to support global operations.

  • Periodic travel required for vendor engagement, pilot testing, restaurant visits, and global meetings.
