Software Development Manager S | Amazon.com | Canada DESCRIPTION Amazon Web Services' Cloud Storage, Amazon S3, is one of the largest distributed storage systems in the world, hosting trillions of objects and serving hundreds of millions of requests per second - and we're continuing to grow! We are seeking a skilled Software Development Manager to lead a cross-organizational tiger team driving a high-visibility S3-wide initiative. In this role, you will leverage your technical depth in large-scale distributed systems to solve complex problems with simple solutions for one of AWS's foundational services. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at massive scale while building both great software and great teams. Key job responsibilities Lead the delivery of a cross-organizational initiative, working backwards from customer needs to create impactful solutions for S3's communication protocols while collaborating with stakeholders across the organization.Lead and mentor a team of talented software engineers, creating structures that enable them to solve complex problems and deliver high-impact solutions while fostering their growth and professional development.Own team-wide architectural decisions and technical direction for a high-visibility S3-wide initiative, ensuring quality software aligned with Amazon's engineering best practices while making appropriate trade-offs between tactical needs and strategic goals.Create mechanisms and metrics that enable you to explain your team's performance and identify opportunities to improve customer experiences.Partner with engineering leaders across S3 to identify and address complex technical challenges, evaluating downstream impacts and architectural cohesiveness. Throughout the day, you'll balance technical deep dives with strategic planning sessions, working across organizational boundaries to drive alignment on your high-visibility initiative. You'll mentor team members to foster their growth while ensuring they have the support needed to deliver complex solutions that meet S3's rigorous standards for security, durability, availability, and performance. Our team combines technical excellence with collaborative problem-solving to deliver innovations across this foundational AWS service. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
