Job Description

The Prior Authorization Pharmacy Technician at our Cedars-Sinai Oncology Pasadena location will assist in supporting the Cedars-Sinai Medical Network pharmacists in the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department. The Pharmacy Support Specialist's primary role is to assist the pharmacists, physicians and other providers in processing of prescription orders, prior authorizations, distribution and inventory management of clinic-administered medications, and obtaining and compiling clinical information. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

 

Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, day shift - onsite role - 625 S Fair Oaks Ave - Pasadena, Ca.

 

What's this role all about?

  • Prior Authorizations - Support Medical Network pharmacists and physicians by processing and submitting prior authorizations in CS-Link for review by health plans as well as ensuring the outcome status is documented in the patient’s chart for transparency among healthcare team.
  • Prior Authorizations - Follow up on open prior authorizations with the health plan to ensure the prior authorizations are resolved/completed in a timely manner.
  • Verify eligibility and benefits under medical benefit for the medication requested as well as and follow-up on submitted prior authorization/pre-certification requests with the health plan ensuring timely turn-around time
  • Identify the supplier of the medication (contracted specialty pharmacy, office stock, or Medication Purchasing, etc) depending on the health plan, site of administration and using department-approved resources.
  • Communicate and document authorization status and source of medication to the prescribing physician/clinic staff via CS-link and/or email.
  • Maintain and update health plan contact lists and health plan guidelines

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

License:

  • California Pharmacy Technician is required

What else are we looking for?

  • 1 year of prior authorizations and utilization management: Experience at a healthplan or with processing medication prior authorization
  • Oncology/ chemotherapy prior authorization experience is strongly preferred
