The City of Minot is accepting applications for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator in the Sanitation Division of the Public Works Department, with an application deadline of Friday, February 27th 2026. This position is open to all qualified internal and external applicants.

All qualified applicants will be required to write the civil service exam for this position, scheduled for Thursday, March 5th at 5:00 PM Located at the Minot Municipal Auditorium- Room #201. Photo ID Required.

Nature of Work
This is semi-skilled work in the operation of a variety of medium sized and heavy motorized equipment. Operates a variety of medium sized and heavy motorized equipment including rear-load garbage truck and Automated Side Load (ASL) garbage truck, backhoe, dozers, sewer jet truck, large tractors, specialized mowing machines, asphalt pavers, sewer vac-all, road graders, large dozers, scrappers, sweepers, and the like. Education, Experience, Other Requirements
  • Completion of high school and six years of experience in the operation of medium and heavy motorized equipment, two years of which must have been at the Equipment Operator-Medium level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • CDL Required

Compensation and Benefits
  • The assigned salary range for Heavy Equipment Operator under the 2026 City of Minot Annual Pay Plan is a Grade 54, with an annual base salary range of $48,118-$71,432, which is an hourly wage of $23.13-$34.34 per hour.
  • This is a full time, FLSA non-exempt position eligible for overtime.
