Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

At the Museum, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Overview of Role

The Public Programmes and Events Team deliver a busy programme of events for adult, family and general audiences both at the Museum in Covent Garden, the Museum Depot in Acton and off-site across the TfL network with heritage vehicles.

A Family Programme Producer is sought to support the development and delivery a programme of events for a family audience throughout the year at both the Museum in Covent Garden, the Museum Depot in Acton and off site. Activities will take place year round, including school holidays, weekends and during term time. The priority audiences include families, a targeted Under 5's audience as well as families with children with special educational needs and disabled children. The post holder will be accountable for embedding best practice in museum education, and will give training and support to a team of freelancers and volunteers who help deliver the programme.

A flexible approach to working is required, with evening and weekend working sometimes necessary.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the development of a Family Engagement Programme for the Museum’s family visitors (who compromise over 50% of our annual visitor numbers) linking to the Museum’s collections, exhibitions and programme of public events.
  • Manage freelancers and volunteers to deliver the Family Programme as needed.
  • Develop activities for families that link to the wider work of the Museum, is visible to and valued by staff and other audiences.
  • Monitor and report on key KPIs, evaluating projects and programmes, and celebrating the impact of the Family Engagement Programme to inform its on-going development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams across our two sites in Covent Garden and Acton Depot, working closely with key internal stakeholders – particularly Marketing, Operations and Visitor Services teams – to ensure that the family programme is visible, valued and integrated with the wider work of the Museum.
  • Deliver to planned budgets, working closely with Public Programmes and Events colleagues, to ensure programmes are delivered in a realistic and sustainable way.
  • Commission and liaise with freelance creatives to develop learning opportunities.

Skills, knowledge and experience

Skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills to engage and work with a range of stakeholders, building personal and organisational relationships at all levels (Essential)
  • Strong organisational skills: a proven ability to work on own initiative and in a team, to prioritise and manage own time and that of others to meet deadlines (Essential)
  • Excellent communication skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrable flexibility in approach to work; able to adjust plans as necessary to meet overall ambitions of the team and the Museum (Essential)

Knowledge

  • Proven knowledge of learning in museums, and passionate about engagement and participation best practice (Essential)
  • Knowledge of working with a range of learners, including those with learning difficulties (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of developing and evaluating engagement projects and programmes (Essential)
  • Knowledge of safeguarding basics (Essential)
  • Computer literate with experience in the use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Essential)
  • Good working knowledge of Transport for London’s services and the history of public transport in London or demonstrably prepared to acquire this (Desirable)

Experience

  • Experience delivering programmes for an intergenerational family audience, including under 5s, teens and children and young people with additional needs (Essential)
  • Demonstrable understanding of best practice in the sector for family engagement (Desirable)
  • Experience of best practice of data collection (Desirable)
  • Experience of successful working in diverse teams (Essential)
