Virta Health is on a mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives. Join us on our mission to reverse metabolic disease in one billion people.

As the Director of IT, you will be the strategic architect of our internal technology ecosystem. You'll transition IT from a reactive service to a proactive automation engine, directly impacting our ability to scale and reverse disease for one billion people. You will have the autonomy to build a "fidelity-first" perimeter and lead a high-performing team in a mission-driven, remote-first culture.

Responsibilities

  • People Leadership & Team Development: Build and develop a high-performing IT team through clear expectations, coaching, and accountability, while fostering trust, ownership, and healthy ways of working in a remote-first culture.

  • Automation Mastery: Create the strategy and execution of internal automations using tools like Okta Workflows and evaluating other tools for enterprise automations such as, Workato or n8n, to systematically reduce manual "Run the Business" (RTB) tasks.

  • Service Desk & Project Management: Own the Zendesk environment, including defining and reporting on IT SLAs and CSAT, while implementing a formal project intake and prioritization process.

  • Identity & Access Governance: Design and enforce a standardized Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) framework aligned with our organizational structure

  • Security & Audit Partnership: Translate high-level security policies into technical controls (e.g., Netskope, Jamf, Okta) and provide critical technical evidence for SOC 2, HIPAA, and HITRUST audits.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build deep partnerships with InfoSec, HR, L&D, Legal, and Strategic Finance to ensure IT workflows support their specific business outcomes.

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • First 30 Days: Complete a deep dive into the current vendor landscape, audit existing Okta workflows, and establish relationships with core stakeholders in Engineering, People, and Finance.

  • 30-60 Days: Implement the first phase of the RBAC framework, establish a formal IT project intake process.

  • 60-90 Days: Automate a major cross-functional workflow (e.g., HRIS to Okta true-ups), and present a 12-month IT strategic roadmap to leadership.

Must-Haves

  • Advanced Automation Skills: Proven experience building and driving complex, multi-app workflows in Okta Workflows or similar iPaaS platforms.

  • Leadership Experience: 5+ years leading IT Service Desk or Service Delivery teams in a remote-first environment at similar or large size company.

  • SaaS Administration: Expert-level knowledge of Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, Jamf, and Zendesk.

  • Governance Expertise: Strong understanding of RBAC methodologies and experience supporting enterprise security audits (SOC 2, HIPAA).

  • Strategic Communication: Ability to translate technical blockers into clear business risks and project timelines.

Values-driven culture

Virta’s company values drive our culture, so you’ll do well if:

  • You put people first and take care of yourself, your peers, and our patients equally

  • You have a strong sense of ownership and take initiative while empowering others to do the same

  • You prioritize positive impact over busy work

  • You have no ego and understand that everyone has something to bring to the table regardless of experience
